All computer-based systems (especially those using web interfaces, which must have external connections) have
potential vulnerablilities and can, if penetrated, have their information quickly copied and distributed.
While SchoolSupport Help Desk is designed to usually limit access to individual questions and replies
to their authors and to authorized faculty and staff members as part of their efforts to help students,
the focus of this site is on providing information, not on protecting it, and therefore
it is not possible to guarantee the privacy of the questions and replies.
Thus this system is not suitable for issues where you want to ensure confidentiality -- talk
directly to a Counselor, AD, or other appropriate person
in such cases, or submit a report through this system stating your problem in general terms and asking that
an appropriate person contact you for further confidential details. If you wish, you can
send a separate email message to the College's academic administration without leaving any record
of its content in this Help Desk system.
Users should be particulary careful to avoid using the SchoolSupport Help Desk system for highly-sensitive matters during
the development period, when weaknesses are being uncovered and changes (which might inadvertently compromise privacy
while trying to improve some other aspect of the system) are often being made. As the system is developed and
stabilized, additional security mechanisms and systematic-testing procedures will be added as the different issues
become clear. However, discretion in written statements about sensitive topics will always remain appropriate.
